Pushing the envelope of
STEM learning
May 24 - 26th , 2011
Tufts University, Medford, MA
|
Purpose:
The LEGO Engineering Symposium is an annual gathering at
Tufts University of educators, researchers, curriculum developers and other
educational stakeholder who are looking to advance the state of K-16 education
using hands-on tools. The 2011
will focus on pushing the envelope of what’s possible with new ways of thinking
about student thinking, new ways of integrating and scaffolding engineering
design, and new software tools. |
|
Structure:
The LEGO Engineering Symposium will be a combination of
speakers on STEM learning and hands-on development labs. The speakers include educational
researchers, practicing teachers, and representatives from LEGO & NI. The development labs are NOT training
sessions but a chance for participants to explore different areas in depth with
support from experts. Participants
leave each development lab having contributed their expertise to the topic as
well as having developed a solution or skills to use in their own setting. |
|
Development Labs:
I. Seeing the science/engineering in children's thinking.
II. Integrating Engineering & Literacy.
III. SAM (Stop Action Movie Making) - Tools for children to create representations of their ideas.
IV. Labview Education Edition - The Next Generation of Programming.
V.
Supporting the Development of Engineering Design Skills K-12.
VI. Physics Glasses: Augmented
Reality and other fun things with Image Analysis
